About the Counseling Process

As a therapist, my priority is to establish a trusting relationship with you, the client, in a supportive, compassionate environment free from judgment. In the beginning sessions of therapy, I will listen to your concerns, and we will set goals together as a roadmap for you to accomplish your objectives for seeking counseling.

My theoretical base is cognitive-behavioral. As we address your personal life challenges, this approach helps you become aware of problematic patterns of thinking and behavior, which are linked to the distressing feelings that hinder your living a fulfilling life. When appropriate, I integrate complementary approaches and techniques to tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs. While no results or outcomes from therapy are guaranteed, the cognitive-behavioral approach is backed by decades of research to be very effective in treating most of the issues presented by clients. You are welcome to question any therapeutic approach at any time.

Sessions are 45 to 50 minutes, usually once a week or bi-weekly. The frequency and length of therapy vary with the individual. Together we will periodically evaluate your progress and make adjustments as needed. If you decide to terminate counseling, it is helpful for us to discuss and process your decision to promote a smooth transition.

From the beginning of our counseling relationship until termination, your active involvement and feedback are important to me and to the success of the counseling process
